Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) give you and your organisation the structure and support you need to tackle strategic business challenges.

All KTPs are partly funded by the government in a national scheme that has been running for over 40 years. More than 150 companies have already found partnering with Sheffield Hallam to be an investment well worth making. We can work with you to make a real step change in your organisation, from developing processes and software to product development and services.

How it works

A KTP can run from twelve months to three years and aims to tackle the strategic needs of your organisation through a transfer of knowledge, technology and skills.

We will work with you to write and submit the bid for funding. If successful we'll then help you to recruit a high calibre graduate (a KTP Associate) who will be based at your organisation to run a well-defined project. The graduate will receive dedicated support from a specialist University academic for half a day a week. You will also have access to our vast range of equipment and facilities.

We can help you with projects such as

  • developing new products
  • creating industry leading manufacturing processes
  • developing innovative software solutions
  • implementing groundbreaking social policies and services

What are the benefits?

KTPs can help you to realise strategic goals and provide the specialist knowledge and resource to get ideas off the ground. Previous clients have enjoyed results including an 85% reduction in material costs and a 10% reduction in staff turnover to name just a few.

The programme encourages organisations to develop a culture of innovation, which can lead to much broader benefits long term. The products and processes developed through the programme can create a lasting impression on your staff and change how you approach challenges in the future.

In addition, a KTP will help you form a stronger partnership with the University, opening up other opportunities as we get to know the challenges you face and are able to identify areas where we can help.
