SHU researchers demonstrate advances in Neuromorphic technology for sustainable AI
At AI UK (17-18 March), Sheffield Hallam University’s Smart Interactive Technologies lab showcased neuromorphic sensors, chips and robots that mimic brain function, illustrating sustainable AI potential. Visitors saw event-based cameras detect single sugar grains, learned neuromorphic chips could overcome current ML bottlenecks, and heard progress toward sensor-rich, animal-like robots.

Smart Computing Showcase
On March 27, 2025, the Smart Computing Showcase, part of the Festival of Computing, celebrated MSc students’ innovation. It featured 40 research posters across computing disciplines like IT Management, AI, and cybersecurity. Sheffield Hallam Games lecturer, Dr Tom Garner, has his virtual reality simulation, FireSIM, demonstrated at the IFIRE Conference in Massachusetts, USA. FireSIM is an immersive experience simulating consequences of arson. Designed for convicted arsonists as part of their rehabilitation and developed with cutting-edge games technologies to produce an evocative experience.
