This professorial lecture will explore how to ensure infrastructures are fit for purpose with ideas on how to design a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly infrastructure to improve and increase its lifespan and how they can be retained which will in turn reduce the need for more costly demolition and replacement processes.

Our services in this area include design and analysis of reinforced concrete and steel structures; reliability analysis of bridges; design and stress analysis of pipe coupling systems for water, gas and oil; numerical and finite element analysis

Our major aim is to elucidate and quantify the processes that contribute to the deterioration and failure of engineering materials through the interaction of material composition, operating environment and the applied/residual stress system.
