Entry requirements for Germany

This page outlines the qualifications we accept from Germany, and the general grades you will need. Some courses have different requirements, so check your course page carefully before you apply.

Undergraduate courses

  • Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife / Abitur with an overall grade of 2-3 ( at least 3 in English and mathematics)
  • For German students, the Abitur (at 7 points or above with English as a special subject ) is accepted in place of IELTS 6.0

We may also accept alternative qualifications for entry onto some undergraduate programmes. For more information contact our admissions team admissions@shu.ac.uk.

We welcome IB students. If you achieve 28 points or more you will usually get an offer on our undergraduate courses.

If you do not meet the academic and English entry requirements for direct entry to an undergraduate degree you can consider studying our International Foundation Programme.

Postgraduate courses

  • Magister Artium / Diplom / Erstes Staatsexamen (First State Examination)
  • Bachelor
  • Fachhochschuldiplom (Diplom (FH)) with an overall grade of 'gut'

Where the entry requirement is a 2:2, we would accept grade 3 (Befriedigend), and where the entry requirement is a 2:1, we would accept grade 2 (Gut) We may also accept alternative qualifications for entry on to postgraduate courses.

Postgraduate research

  • Masters degree from a recognised university
