*This page will be updated before the course start date in September 2024.

The service is available to all international Sheffield Hallam students arriving at Manchester Airport between:

Thursday 11 January – Sunday 14 January 2024

If you are arriving in this period, we will collect you from Manchester Airport and bring you to Sheffield, while helping you with the most important tasks you need to complete on arrival. Please make sure you book in advance.

Terms and conditions

The Service is available to any international students arriving while the service is in operation.

This service is only available to students who have pre-booked by completing our arrival information form at least three days before the scheduled arrival. If you arrive without booking the service or you book too late, we cannot guarantee you will get a seat on the private coach.

Make sure you use your personal email address when you complete your details. You will receive a confirmation email with information about the service. Please check your inbox for an email from hallamhelp@shu.ac.uk after you have registered. Otherwise, check your Spam/Junk email folder for the email.

The service is available at 11am, 2pm and 5pm on the stated dates. If you arrive after 5pm we will not be able to meet you.

If your flight is more than one hour late, we will do our best to accommodate you on the next available pickup of the day or the following morning, subject to availability and space.

It is your responsibility to find our student guides as soon as possible after your arrival. If you fail to do this and you miss the pick-up, you will have to make your own way to Sheffield.

Any travelling companions who are not Sheffield Hallam students themselves (such as parents, guardians, relatives, children above the age of two, friends etc.) will be charged £20 per person for using this service.

UK passport control

When you arrive at the airport in the UK, head to passport control. If you are a national from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea or the USA, and are staying in the UK for over 6 months, you can use the automated eGates.

If you are a short term student (up to 6 months) or from a country not listed above, you must not use the eGates, as you need to see an officer to get a stamp in your passport. This stamp gives you the permissions needed for your studies. To assist with this, download this document and present it to a Border Force Officer. This can be presented to staff either printed or shown on a mobile device.

Making your own way from Manchester Airport

If you arrive outside of the dates above, or if you choose to travel Sheffield on your own, you can use the train or coach stations at the airport. They are clearly signposted at the airport. Follow the signs or ask at the information desk.

Please register your arrival details and select 'I will be at Manchester airport but NOT on these days or do not need the Transport Service' option then you will receive personalised travel instructions to help you make your own way from Manchester Airport. When you arrive in Sheffield, follow these directions to the University.
