International arrivals

International arrivals

Plan your journey to Sheffield, and get ready for life as a student in the UK.

Key tasks

Enrol and book accommodation

Make sure you enrol and arrange accommodation before you travel.

You need to do this so you can add your address to your passenger locator form. It also allows you to access quarantine and self-isolation support from the University.

Plan your journey

We recommend flying to Manchester Airport and booking a free pickup.

If you need to use an alternative route, you can find guidance on our international arrival pages.

Arrival times

If you are arriving outside our Meet and Greet opening times, the main University buildings might be closed. You can call our 24-hour helpline on 0800 073 1318. Make a note of this before you travel. You should also contact your landlord in advance to confirm your arrival time.

Collect your BRP card

If you used the University ACL code in your visa application, you will be able to collect your BRP from us.

Complete the BRP Collection form and we will contact you to arrange collection.

If you did not use the University ACL code, collect your BRP from the Post Office at 33-35 Charles Street.

Book orientation sessions

Our international welcome programme includes:

  • social events
  • campus and city tours
  • advice on work, study and support.

Visit the international orientation page to browse sessions and register.

Police registration

Some non-EU students need to register with the police. Your visa vignette or Home Office decision letter will tell you if need to register.

You usually need to register within seven days of your arrival in the UK.

Register online with South Yorkshire Police.
