Visit our Accommodation for International Students page to find out more.

If you are an international student bringing your family or dependants and are looking for accommodation, visit our Students with Families page for more information.

Arrival slots

If you are in Hallam halls of residence, look out for an email inviting you to book an arrival slot. Booking a slot is important, as moving in days get very busy. Sticking to your slot helps control crowds around halls and traffic around the city.

To help make your arrival as smooth as possible, we also recommend arriving in just one car where you can and moving your belongings in promptly, so spaces are available for other students arriving after you.

If you are not living in Hallam halls of residence, contact your landlord directly to arrange key collection and arrival.

Important notice:

Due to a football match at Bramall Lane on Sunday 13th September, there will be no direct access to a number of roads around the stadium. Students travelling to accommodation in this area may be unable to access their buildings until the roads reopen. Depending on arrival times, there is also a risk that accommodation staff may no longer be available when access becomes possible.

To minimise disruption, please contact your accommodation provider in advance and, where possible, arrange to arrive either on an alternative day or outside the road closure period on Sunday 13th.

Between 09:30 and 16:00 there will be no direct access to roads around the stadium, including:

  • Bramall Lane
  • Shoreham Street
  • Cherry Street
  • John Street
  • Randall Street
  • Harwood Street
  • Denby Street
  • Clough Road

Sheffield City Council has advised that major routes into the city, particularly from the M1 and along the inner ring road, are likely to experience significant congestion. Expected pinch points include:

  • Bramall Lane
  • Queens Road
  • London Road
  • Ecclesall Road

Please plan ahead to avoid delays.

What to bring

Unless otherwise stated your room will be furnished with bed, wardrobe, desk and chair so you won't need to bring any furniture. Bringing things that will make your space feel like home is a good idea. Check out our helpful list on our 'before you arrive' page

Getting to campus

Get off to a flying start for your first day by making sure you know the route from your accommodation to campus and how you plan to travel. Check our travel tips and building locations.

Council tax discounts

Depending on your living arrangements, you might be eligible for a council tax discount. Check Sheffield Council's discounts and exemptions page.

You will need to provide proof of your student status to get a discount. You can get this after you enrol. Look out for instructions in your enrolment confirmation email.
