Introduction

The module will enable you to explore Domain D of the Advanced Practice Credential Specification for people with learning disabilities including people with learning disabilities and autism. Appraising law, policy and risk across the life span.

Who is this course/module for?

This module is suitable for anyone with a registered professional health or social care qualification supporting people with learning disabilities, for example:

  • Registered Nurse all fields
  • Social Worker
  • Speech and Language Therapist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Occupational Therapist

What you’ll learn

You will explore and appraise the application and impact of key legislation, regulations and policies that underpin the protection of people with learning disabilities with or without autism.
Such as:

  • Mental capacity, deprivation of liberty, equality, and human rights.
  • Law, ethics and safeguarding, including equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Discrimination, stigma, and unconscious bias.
  • Risk assessment applied to protected characteristics, links between risk-taking and responsibility, empowerment, and social inclusion.

Skills you’ll gain

Ability to apply appropriate law and policy across the life span for people with learning disabilities with or without autism.

The module will be delivered utilising a range of delivery options including in person on campus learning, and online delivery.

    The module requires applicants to be a current registrant on a professional health or social care statutory body register.

  • Attendance

    Delivery Method:

    Blended learning (in-person and online learning activities). A mix of on-campus and online learning, with both in-person sessions and digital activities included in your course. We will require all non-British and non-Irish students to attend campus for an in-person verification check to comply with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requirements at the start of their first module.
