Introduction
This module will develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Domains B and C of the Advanced Practice Credential Specification. Exploring the health, wellbeing, personalised care, and support of people with learning disabilities and or autism.
Analysing factors that may have a negative impact whilst promoting and advocating for collaborative person-centred care informed by all those significant to the person. This will include the critical appraisal of services developed, or necessary, to support these requirements, which should be consistent and appropriate for a person from birth to death.

This module is suitable for anyone with a registered professional health or social care qualification supporting people with learning disabilities e.g.

Occupational Therapist
What you’ll learn
The requirement for powerful advocation for people with learning disabilities within health equality and inequality.
How to maximise health and wellbeing, including, but not be limited too, nutrition and hydration, end of life care, sensory needs, epilepsy, postural requirements, life transitions, positive behaviour support, relationships, and sexual health, considering at all times person-centred, personalised care.
Skills you’ll gain
The development of advanced clinical knowledge and application of the skills required to maximise the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities across the life span, utilising clinical expertise, and recognition of the importance of working across health and social care systems
How you’ll learn
The module will be delivered utilising a range of delivery options including in person on campus learning, and online delivery.

Entry requirements
The module requires applicants to be a current registrant on a professional health or social care statutory body register. Evidence of level 6 study and or hold a relevant undergraduate degree (minimum 2:2 or equivalent) in a health, social care, or related discipline.
Be a registered professional with an appropriate regulatory body (e.g. NMC, HCPC, or equivalent), where applicable. Provide evidence of English language proficiency where English is not the first language, typically an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with no component below 6.0)
Be currently employed in, or have access to, a relevant practice setting that supports engagement with mental health practice.
Demonstrate the ability to study at Level 7, including skills in critical thinking, academic writing, and independent learning.
Have appropriate support in practice, such as access to supervision or a workplace mentor, where required for module activities.

Attendance
Delivery Method:
Blended learning (in-person and online learning activities). A mix of on-campus and online learning, with both in-person sessions and digital activities included in your course. We will require all non-British and non-Irish students to attend campus for an in-person verification check to comply with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requirements at the start of their first module.
