Introduction
This module provides you with an understanding of the standards and competencies required to successfully undertake the role of the Professional Midwifery and Nurse Advocate (PMA/PNA).
The PMA/PNA model links leadership and supervisory work with staff personal development, with the aim of impacting quality improvement and enhancement initiatives. The module will focus on the four functions of the Advocating for Education and Quality and Improvement (A-EQUIP) Model which are:
Clinical Supervision (Restorative)
Monitoring, Evaluation and Quality Control (Normative)
Personal Action for Quality Improvement
Education and Development (Formative)
Who is this course/module for?
- A registered Nurse or Midwife
- Are in a patient facing role
- Are Band 5 or above
- Hold a pre-2012 nursing diploma (with the addition of a top-up accredited Level 6 qualification) or equivalent study/experience
- Already hold an accredited Level 6 qualification (degree or degree equivalent/ top-up accredited Level 6 CPD course) or equivalent study/experience.
- Have line manager approval to be released.
What you’ll learn
This Professional Midwifery/Nurse Advocate module will facilitate your understanding of the A-EQUIP model and enable the development of skills which can be used to provide restorative supervision for peers and encourage colleagues to engage in quality improvement for the benefit of those in our care. Over time Professional Midwifery/Nurse Advocates will help foster a culture of honesty, resilience and self compassion. In doing so, improve the care we are able to provide

How you’ll learn
The course is Online balanced with self directed study and mentorship within your organisation. A blended learning approach will include seminar work, presentations and skills practice as well as a self assessment and reflective approach.

Entry requirements
- A registered Nurse or Midwife

Attendance
Delivery Method:
Synchronous online learning (distance learning). Take part in live, timetabled online sessions using tools like video calls and virtual classrooms. You’ll learn in real time with tutors and other students, with no need to attend campus for teaching or assessments.
