Course summary

Your classroom learning is put to work in real buildings, projects and sites by completing a number of field trips, ultimately leading to a successful career in construction.
We also offer a degree apprenticeship version of this course, BSc (Honours) Professional Practice in Construction Site Management, where you study alongside 30+ hours of employment a week.

Applied learning
Work placements
You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Placements are usually at a major construction firm or consultancy. The placement year can contribute towards your professional experience requirement for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Assessment of Professional Competence and the Chartered Institute of Building's Professional Review.
Previous students have spent their placement working as site managers for national construction firms, assistant project managers for national firms, an HR and recruitment consultant, health and safety manager, a design manager and as a consultant engineer.
Field trips
Field trips on this course include local excursions, trips to UK cities and a project-based visit, which is commonly a major European city.

On this course you will have the opportunity to
- undertake site-based land surveying activities
- have activities and assessments based at a number of university-owned buildings
- undertake activities with a number of construction firms in the region, visiting live sites and gaining valuable professional opinions
- work in specialist materials laboratories

Entry requirements
All students
UCAS points

This must include at least 64 points from two A levels, or equivalent BTEC National qualifications. For example:
- BCC at A Level.
- DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma.
- A combination of qualifications, which may include AS Levels, EPQ and general studies.

GCSE
- English Language or English Literature at grade C or 4
- Mathematics at grade C or 4
We may accept GCSE equivalents.
• Access - at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2 from a relevant Open College Network accredited course
• foundation degree - advanced entry - for direct entry to year two you must have a foundation degree in a related subject, with an average score of 60% across the highest level modules.
• Advanced entry - for direct entry to year two you would normally have a minimum of an all merit average on all units in a construction related HND/HNC, not including key or common skills. Compensation for a pass in one unit with a distinction in another unit is permitted.
If English is not your first language you need an IELTS average score of at least 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.5 in all skills
We consider other qualifications from the UCAS tariff. Applicants with alternative qualifications or a combination of qualifications and work experience are also considered. We welcome applications from people of any age. Please contact us for further advice.

Fees and funding
Home students
Our tuition fee for UK students starting part-time study in 2022/23 is £4,625 per year (based on studying 60 credits per year).
† If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. International students
Our tuition fee for International/EU students starting part-time study in 2022/23 are: Year 1 £7,210, Year 2: £7,210, Year 3: £9,610, Year 4: £9,610, Year 5: £9,610. This course is not eligible for full-time Tier4 visa sponsorship. International students may apply for part-time Tier4 sponsorship on an individual basis.
