Physical Activity, Wellbeing and Public Health Research Group

The Physical Activity, Wellbeing and Public Health Research Group (PAWPH) began operations as The Centre for Sport and Exercise Sciences in the year 2000, before turning its focus on the health benefits of physical activity. The research group boasts one of the largest physical activity and wellbeing portfolios and research expertise in the UK. The group conducts applied research and consultancy that supports people to lead healthy and active lives through the prevention and treatment of chronic disease, and is led by Dr Anouska Carter, Principal Researcher.

The group comprises 15 research staff, 3 associate researchers and multiple PhD students, providing a multidisciplinary team with expertise across qualitative and quantitative methods of enquiry, in the disciplines of physiology, psychology, strength and conditioning and nutrition.
