Our department offers vocationally-focused courses in Biomedical, Biological and Chemical Sciences delivered in a supportive research informed environment.
Through our teaching and research we prepare students for a range of careers in the life sciences and chemistry sectors by developing students' understanding of techniques that can be applied to healthcare, pharmaceutical, environmental and materials industries.
Our teaching of scientific theory and its application is underpinned by practical classes in our extensive laboratories. Our curricula also emphasise the development of personal and professional skills required for graduate level employment.
Staff are research active and carry out research within the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre.
Athena Swan Silver award
The department holds an Athena SWAN Silver award, we first achieved this award in 2012, and it was renewed for a further three years in November 2015. The award celebrates our best practice in areas such as recruitment, retention, career progression and work environment, as part of our commitment to addressing gender inequality in higher education.
