The School of Computing and Digital Technologies at Sheffield Hallam University has established the Centre of Excellence for AI and Robotics (CEAIR), building on the School’s strong and growing expertise in embodied AI, intelligent collaborative robotics, neuromorphic computing, and responsible innovation.

CEAIR is a strategic hub for applied research, innovation, knowledge exchange, and skills development in artificial intelligence and robotics, with a strong emphasis on human-centred and responsible AI that delivers social impact and supports economic growth.

The Centre aims to advance responsible AI and robotics research, support industry innovation and regional economic growth, and develop the skills needed for an AI-enabled economy through research, collaboration, and education.

Its work will focus on areas including neuromorphic robotics, generative AI, health and wellbeing, trustworthy autonomous systems, and human-robot collaboration, while creating opportunities for interdisciplinary research, external partnerships, and real-world application.

CEAIR also strengthens Sheffield Hallam’s role as a regional anchor for innovation, helping connect academic expertise with industry, public sector needs, and future workforce development across key growth sectors such as health, advanced manufacturing, and defence.
