We Were Awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Accreditation!

This is an amazing achievement and reflects the dedication, collaboration and hard work of colleagues across the School. We would also like to thank everyone involved in developing the submission, including Dave Gubbins (EEDI Operations Manager) who supported and guided the process.

"We are extremely proud and happy to receive this award! Computing remains one of the most gender-imbalanced disciplines in Higher Education, with women and gender-diverse people consistently under-represented among students, academic staff, and senior leadership. That makes this work necessary rather than optional. While the sector is navigating significant financial challenges, and work like this can feel like something for easier times, I would argue the opposite: when resources are stretched, retaining talented colleagues and drawing on the widest possible pool of ability matters more, not less. Bronze is a starting point, not a finish line, but we have a clear action plan, and we are looking forward to making a difference in this space!"
Dr Diana Hintea, Deputy Head of School and Application Lead

"It is extremely pleasing that the School's commitment to gender equality and equity has been recognised through the award of Athena Swan Bronze accreditation. This achievement provides encouragement and momentum as we begin to deliver our ambitious action plan and further strengthen the School as an inclusive, supportive and welcoming environment for women. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the application, including its leadership, the dedication of our Self-Assessment Team members, all staff who participated in our data collection activities, and the critical friends across the University who provided valuable feedback on draft submissions. This recognition would not have been possible without them."
