Sheffield Hallam academics at the IATEFL Conference

Sheffield Hallam's TESOL Centre had a strong representation at this year's IATEFL Conference in Glasgow.
Joanne Webster and Marion Heron presented an analysis of data from their research exploring types of tutor and student talk in EAP classrooms.
The researchers have identified specific types of tutor-student talk which promote both learner engagement and language development.
Alice Oxholm and Helen Donaghue gave an evaluation of an innovative microteaching and stimulated recall activity they had designed to engage novice teachers with reflection.
The researchers showed how a data-led, dialogic approach prompted reflection in student teachers.
Both pieces of research have immediate impact on the TESOL Centre's teacher education programme and are of wider interest to the international English language teaching community.
