Dr Augustine Ikpehai received PhD in Smart Grid communication from the Manchester Metropolitan University and MSc in Communication Engineering from Lancaster University, both in UK. He joined Sheffield Hallam University in January 2019 as a lecturer in the Department of Engineering & Mathematics.
Augustine has over 10 years’ experience in industry and R&D with core expertise in Network Engineering, Communication Systems, Smart Grid Technologies and IoT. He has executed and participated in many successful projects funded by EPSRC, EU-H2020 and Innovate-UK up to £31.3M.
Dr Augustine is a lecturer within the Electronic Engineering subject group. Before joining Sheffield Hallam, he was as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Division, Manchester Metropolitan University.
In the last five years, Augustine has been involved in many research projects such as “City Verve” IoT for Smart City project in which he was a task leader of IoT access technologies.
During his Post-Doc (Oct 2017 to Jan 2019), he also worked on the energy and ICT work packages in “Triangulum” Smart Cities project. A major outcome of Triangulum is the creation of a living lab to support scholarly activities on smart grid technologies.
The rest projects are "Smart In-building Micro-grid for Energy Management" and the UK-South Korean EPSRC project on "Peer to Peer (P2P) Energy Trading/Sharing" in partnership with Oxford, Bath and Imperial College.
Augustine publishes widely in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences. His current research interests include Smart Grid Technologies, IoT systems, Software-Defined Networking/Network Function Virtualisation, Power Line Communication, Energy Management, Intelligent Systems for Critical Infrastructure, Smart Wireless Power Transfer, Transactive Energy Systems and Resource Allocation & Control in communication systems.
Dr Augustine has served as member of organising committee and Technical Program Committee in many IEEE conferences as well as referee in many renowned journals. He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy. Prior his PhD, Augustine worked as a Communication Network Engineer at Zenith Bank Plc, Nigeria where he obtained industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE (written), JNCIA and JNCIS.
