Within the first few months of being at Sheffield Hallam University, I became the joint president - with my twin brother - of the Afro-Caribbean Society.

In the first year we worked with lots of other societies in Hallam Union and with other societies around the country to put on various events that drew hundreds of people to the Students’ Union. In just one year we helped to increase the number of members of the Afro-Caribbean Society from around 20 to over 250 members! We were rewarded at the end of the first year at the Union awards night, where our society won the ‘Best Event of the Year’ award for an event we put on to celebrate Black History Month.

In my second year, I decided to run to become the Union's first International and Black Students’ Executive. I won the election and during my post I put into place a project to help international students integrate into university life, find their way around Sheffield and make new friends.

Working with so many people from different places and cultures was such a fantastic experience. I met so many amazing people and had it not have been for the opportunities that Hallam offered me, I don't think I would have got to where I am in my career today.
