South Yorkshire VCSE: Understanding value and impact

Project Director: Catherine Harris
Project Duration: 2023

The research aim was to provide an up-to-date picture of the voluntary and community sector across the four South Yorkshire districts (Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield) in order to see how the sector was made up, what it did, how healthy it was, and the support it needed.

The research consisted of two strands:

  • An online survey of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations.
  • Analysis of administrative data available on third sector organisations (TSOs) registered or operating in South Yorkshire.

Our findings are presented in the final report, as well as the one-page summaries for each area.

The project team also included Chris Damm and Lorna Dowrick (Sheffield Hallam University).
