On this course, you'll learn the fundamentals of mass spectrometry, as well as its application in the 21st century. You'll work and study simultaneously – integrating the theoretical knowledge you gain on the course into the practicalities of your employment.

On this course, you’ll engage in learning activities that establish a framework for lifelong learning. As you progress through your course you will systematically acquire the skills required for you to learn independently and through which you can continue to learn and develop after successful completion of your programme.
The course focuses on the areas of general and organic chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biology or selected specialist areas from instrument design to interpretation of data. You also study the contempoary applications of mass spectrometry using topics of relevance to the pharmaceutical and bioscience industries as case studies and examples of applications.

Course leaders and tutors
Robert is a lecturer in Analytical Science specialising in Mass Spectrometry
The applied elements of the 30 credit work-based study module will be carried out in your workplace, where you will be guided by a mentor who will be a practicing mass spectrometrist, available for technical support and advice. Where such an individual is not available, your academic tutor will fulfil this role.
In addition, you will continue to have the support of your academic tutor throughout your study for guidance and to counsel you through the assessment tasks associated with this module.

You study this course online from any location
A 2:1 in a relevant Honours degree is normally accepted as the entry requirement for the course. Applicants with a 2:2 are also actively encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis. Applicants with alternative qualifications with academic attainment or skills in subjects which are directly relevant to the course will also be considered.
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or a recognised equivalent.

Fees and funding
Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2022/23 is £8,745 for the course. For part-time study the fee will be calculated pro-rata each year based on the number of credits studied (£2,915 for 60 credits).
