Janette Hurst is a Senior Lecturer in the Organisational Behavior and Human Resource Management Subject Group in the Department of Management.

Applied learning

We think the best way to learn something is to do it in the real world. That means putting learning into practice on placements, internships and real-world consultancy projects – arranged through our global network of leading businesses.

Placements

You’ll have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you valuable work experience to prepare you for your future career – as well as an Applied Professional Diploma to add to your CV. 

Previous students have been on placement at leading businesses and institutes, such as Lloyds Banking Group, Schlumberger, Transdev, Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria, Department for Education, CLAAS UK, and The NHS.

Live Projects

As part of your studies, you’ll take on projects set by external organisations, allowing you to apply your learning to the real world, build your business network and take your first step on your chosen career ladder.

You’ll complete a consultancy project where you’ll help a business research a real-world opportunity or challenge – presenting your insights while linking theory to practice.

Field Trips

You’ll have the opportunity to visit leading local businesses and global brands with industry field trips throughout your course.

You can also hear exclusive talks from global brands and local businesses – discovering first-hand insights about how to create, lead and manage an effective business.

Entrepreneurial Support

We offer award-winning support for entrepreneurs. Benefit from free offices and studio space, expert workshops, freelance opportunities and a vast business network ready for you to tap into.

With the support of the Hallam i-Lab business hub, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with creatives, entrepreneurs and investors across Sheffield. Here, you can form lucrative business networks, brainstorm entrepreneurial ideas and even launch your own venture.

From Autumn 2024, you’ll study in a brand new, net-zero-ready building right at the heart of the city centre. 

You’ll benefit from dedicated business facilities such as a business lounge, trading floor and languages hub, plus plenty of room to study in social learning spaces, seminar rooms and PC labs – all set in 400 square metres of stunning green space, where you can socialise, eat, relax and study.

Entry requirements

All students

UCAS points

  • 112-120

This must include at least 48 points from 2 A Levels or equivalent BTEC qualifications. For example:

  • BBC-BBB at A Level
  • DDM in BTEC Extended Diploma.
  • Merit overall from a T level qualification.  
  • A combination of qualifications, which may include AS levels, EPQ and general studies

GCSE

  • English Language at grade C or 4
  • Maths at grade D or 4

• Access - an Access to HE Diploma with at least 45 credits at level 3 and 15 credits at level 2. At least 15 level 3 credits must be at merit grade or above, from a QAA-recognised Access to HE course, or an equivalent Access to HE certificate.

If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent.

If you do not have any of the qualifications above but have relevant experience you are welcome to discuss potential opportunities with the admissions tutor.

Fees and funding

Home students

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time undergraduate study in 2024/25 is £9,250 per year. These fees are regulated by the UK government and are therefore subject to changes in government policy. During your placement year you will pay a reduced fee of £1,200.

If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. International students

Our tuition fee for International/EU students starting full-time study in 2024/25 is £16,655 per year. During your placement year you will pay a reduced fee of £1,200.
