How you learn

All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.

Based in the Sheffield Business School, you’ll join a global community where business leaders, researchers and business students all come together to solve problems and make things better.

You’ll have the opportunity to spend a semester in Paris at IÉSEG School of Management  during your first and second years, followed by a full year in Barcelona at IQS School of Management in your third year. You’ll gain first hand exposure to diverse cultural and business environments, deepening your understanding of French and Spanish culture and practices.

This structured approach ensures you receive a comprehensive understanding of international business dynamics, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in today's interconnected and dynamic global marketplace.

Expert tutors bring current research into their modules by including insights from their own research and drawing on cutting-edge knowledge from the wider international business field. By its very nature, the course has a truly international perspective across all levels.

You learn through:

  • Lectures and seminars
  • Interactive workshops
  • Small group supervision meetings
  • Individual drop in meetings
  • Guest lectures
  • Digitally enabled learning
  • Problem-solving exercises
  • Simulations and learning games
  • Case study discussions

Key themes

The themes and learning materials on the course are selected to represent a diversity of global contexts and perspectives. Informed by contemporary academic research in international business, you’ll focus on the applied and practical issues organisations face, including the digital solutions they use.

You’ll collaborate with business organisations and industry practitioners, equipping you with the skills you’ll need in the workplace.

On several key modules, you’ll have opportunities to tailor your learning experience, including the flexibility to choose assessment tasks that align with your preferences and goals.

The assessment is rooted in the real-world contexts faced by firms. There is a variety of assessment formats used such as written reports, essays, individual/group presentations, self-reflective tasks, exams, and in-class tests.

Applied learning

We think the best way to learn something is to do it in the real world. This guides everything we do at Sheffield Business School – and is an ethos we share with our European partners.

Placements

You’ll have the opportunity to undertake a work placement in the UK before your fourth year of study. This gives you valuable work experience to prepare you for your future career.

We have a dedicated support team who will help and support you to arrange your work placement.

Study Abroad

We’ll encourage and support you to study abroad in France and Spain at our partner institutions to help embed and expand your understanding, fostering a truly global perspective essential for success in today's global business landscape.

Live projects

Some modules include applied project work, where you’ll work with external clients, organisations, business practitioners and other partners.

You’ll also develop your entrepreneurial awareness as part of the course. This includes focusing on practical issues such as networking, business modelling and financing – as well as commercialising entrepreneurial ideas.

These skills are supported by a live consultancy project, where you’ll liaise with a client company and deliver a group project to their brief.

Field trips

We offer trips to a variety of organisations, including local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and multinationals with operations in the UK. These are great chances to see the types of environments you may be working within in the future.

Networking opportunities

You can connect with employers through Careers Days and guest lectures – gaining valuable insights into the challenges that real-world businesses are facing. You may also be able to network with previous graduates who share their experiences while empathising with the stage you’re at in your career.

We’ll also encourage you to take part in competitions, with prizes available for strong projects and inspirational students.

Fees and funding

Home students

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time undergraduate study in 2024/25 is £9,250 per year. These fees are regulated by the UK government and are therefore subject to changes in government policy. During your year of study abroad in Year 3 you will pay a reduced fee of £1,385. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. If the full course is more than one year in duration, the fee will be divided into annual payments which will then be rounded. This may mean the total fee you pay is slightly higher than the fee stated above. If you take a break in study or have to re-take part of the course, you may also be charged an additional fee and will be notified of this at the time.

If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. More information can be found in our terms and conditions under student fees regulations.

International students
