How you learn

All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.

Based in our Sheffield Business School, you’ll join a global community where business leaders, researchers and business students all come together to solve problems and make things better.

You’ll be taught by industry experts, who bring their industry experience and insights from cutting-edge research into the classroom. They’ll lead you through a transformational experience – on a programme that’s designed and delivered to inspire you to realise your ambitions.

You learn through:

  • Formal teaching
  • Applied problem-solving
  • Real and simulated case studies
  • Class discussions
  • Presentations
  • Guest speakers
  • Independent study

Course Topics

Build on the knowledge you previously gained on your senior leader apprenticeship program by completing an applied business investigation module and researching a business issue.

Typically, this is a challenge your current organisation faces, which you’ll tackle by pulling together the skills you’ve developed in marketing, strategy, leadership, people, finance, and operations. You’ll be able to apply these to your chosen business issue where suitable, over the course of the MBA Applied Business investigation module (60 credits).

You could also develop specialist knowledge in areas such as sustainability, disruptive technology and equality, diversity and inclusion – depending on your selected issue.

You’ll also have the opportunity to strengthen your business acumen and gain work-related experience by exploring other functions within your organisation. This will help you to gain the maximum benefit from the MBA, developing skills to enable you to achieve your leadership goals.

Course Support

Throughout your learning journey, you’ll experience a range of dedicated support, such as:

  • Access to our unique student support triangle to help with your personal, academic and career development.
  • Access to our Skills Centre with one-to-ones, webinars and online resources.
  • A network of entrepreneurs and business leaders in our award-winning enterprise hub.
  • Career support for up to five years after graduating.

Applied learning

We think the best way to learn something is to do it in the real world. Our knowledge applied approach to learning focuses strongly on learning from experience in the business world.

Live Projects

We bring the 'real' business world into your learning experience by using live case studies linked to accessible organisations – and by applying concepts, theories and research to your own organisation. This means you can make your learning a truly relevant and meaningful experience.

Networking Opportunities

During the course you’ll be able to develop shared learning, business contacts and networking opportunities through your workplace experiences, peers, teaching staff and industry experts.

You’ll collaborate with other professionals and leaders on the course. Together, you’ll reflect on challenges, share ideas and innovate new solutions.

You’ll also be encouraged to attend networking events from leading organisations, such as The Institute of Leadership and Management.

Future careers

The course is highly valued by employers and previous MBA graduates who have gone on to develop successful careers in senior management – in a wide range of opportunities across the world.

You’ll be preparing for a career in several management fields, such as:
