Course summary

  • Study a range of free modules, workshops and tutorials designed for non-native English speaking international students.
  • Develop your awareness of and control over academic discourse, and the various text types used within your subject of study.
  • Engage with a variety of speaking, writing and analytical tasks, from investigating vocabulary and grammatical structures in texts to delivering presentations.

Offered to all non-native English speaking Hallam students, this course is made up of elective modules in academic English, speaking and pronunciation, grammar for academic writing, academic reading and vocabulary, writing your master's dissertation and academic English for your PhD.

The English scheme is offered as a range of free modules, workshops and tutorials for international students enrolled at Sheffield Hallam. The teaching varies depending on the options you choose. Credit-bearing modules include English for business academic purposes, English for academic purposes, and there are a range of further opportunities to improve your written and spoken English as well as listening and reading skills.
