If you are an experienced coach working with children or adults and want to develop your expertise, or a performance coach working with talent, this course enables you to further develop and apply your knowledge, skills and competencies in your sport coaching environment.
How you learn
The course is led by Michelle Vernon-Way, an expert in sport coaching with over 20 years' industry experience of bespoke development for national governing body coaches. Our sports research is ranked fourth in the UK and we provide market-leading commercial services to a wide range of organisations and athletes.

On this course you work with
This course has been designed for coaches who have experience of sport coaching and can demonstrate a desire to further develop as a critically-reflective, autonomous practitioner. The course is selective and welcomes applications from coaches who are graduates with a 2.1 or above.
If you don't have a degree, we will consider you if you can evidence a minimum of five years' experience of working in a performance coaching environment. You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam. Find out more
A NGB approved level three coaching qualification or international equivalent coaching qualification.
Where candidates lack experience, evidence of continual professional development in coaching or equivalent levels of study in coaching will be sought for example, UK Sport, Sports Coach UK performance workshops.
You need to attend an interview to determine your suitability to study at masters level.
Non-native English speakers need to be proficient in English, typically shown by an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which enables you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Fees and funding
Our tuition fee for UK/EU students starting full-time study in 2020/21 is £4,950 for the course. For part time study the fee will be calculated pro-rata each year based on the number of credits studied (£620 for 15 credits or £1,240 for 30 credits).
