Learn how you can apply for a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship as an international student.

Overview

Funded by the UK Government and the University, Commonwealth Shared Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.

What you could get

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship covers your return airfares between your home country and the UK, tuition fees, visa costs and a living allowance whilst you’re in the UK. For more information about what you could receive, visit the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship website.

Who can apply

Applications are now open for courses starting in September 2026. You can apply online at the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission's website. Applications close on 09 December 2025.

We are offering two full scholarships for courses starting in September 2026, open to applicants who will study one of the following courses:

MSc Biomedical Laboratory Science

MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

MSc Environmental Management

MA/LLM Global Human Rights and Social Justice in Practice

MSc Pharmaceutical Analysis

MSc Pharmacology and Biotechnology

In addition to completing the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission's online application form, you also need to apply directly to Sheffield Hallam University for a place on one of the above courses. We advise that you submit your application as soon as possible. You need to make sure you have received your offer of a place on one of the courses by the start of February 2026.
