Performance Athlete Support Programme

Support package for talented student athletes.

The information on this page is correct for the 2026/27 academic year.

Overview

Our Performance Athlete Support Programme allows talented student athletes to balance university life while achieving their sporting potential.

For this programme, we will consider athletes competing at a high level in their sport. For example, selected to represent their country in senior or junior international level, or playing in a professional academy, or in a recognised international pathway.

What you could receive

Successful applicants will receive support from our multi-disciplinary team of sport practitioners, support with sport related expenses and free Sport Hallam Membership, with access to our range of facilities. Some students may also receive a bursary of up to £1,350.

Who can apply

You can apply if you:

  • will be studying full-time or part-time at Sheffield Hallam University in 2026/27 academic year, and
  • are competing at academy, national, or international level, and/or you can demonstrate strong future potential in your sport.
  • are competing in an Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, or BUCS-recognised sport (including BUCS Para Sport) - Athletes competing in other sports are considered case-by-case. 
  • can evidence progression within an NGB or professional performance pathway.

Please note: 

  • meeting the criteria above does not guarantee selection for PASP
  • selection for PASP does not influence admission to academic courses at Sheffield Hallam

When to apply

There are two application windows, please be sure to apply at the right time.

Applications for students starting academic year 2026/27 in September 2026: Wednesday 1st July 2026 – Tuesday 1st September 2026.

Applications for students starting academic year 2026/27 in January 2027: Tuesday 1st December 2026 – Sunday 31st January 2027.

How to apply

You will need to submit an application form. You will not be able to save progress on your application. We suggest composing information outside of the form so that everything can be submitted in one session.

The form will ask you for:

  1. Personal information - details about you as a student athlete
  2. Sporting information - about your sport and the level you compete at
  3. Supporting evidence - how you can verify your sporting achievements
  4. Personal statement and reference - a chance for you and your coach to tell us more
  5. Support request - how we can help you achieve in your sport

You must read the scheme Terms and Conditions and Club Code of Conduct before applying.

Sport expense claims

Existing PASP students can submit a sport expense claim. You must read the terms and conditions before submitting a claim, these can be found at the start of the form.

Expense claims for 2025/26 PASP students are now open.
