Beltane

1st May - Beltane is one of the ancient pagan festivals, known to have been celebrated in Celtic times. It was seen as the beginning of summer, when livestock were turned out of their winter quarters. Two fires were lit and cattle driven between them to offer protection to them in their summer pastures. In some cases, humans also jumped the fires to bring luck and protection. Beltane was considered a time when mischievous forces; fairies, spirits etc., had free reign and protection was required. Today, Beltane is still a Fire Festival at the start of summer and considered by many to be one of the most important festivals. Pagans celebrate the return of fertility to the land, without which, humans cannot survive, even today. Creative energy is celebrated and plans made and pledged. A time of joy and enthusiasm like no other.

Vesak or Visakah Puja

"Buddha Day" Traditionally, Buddha’s Birthday is known as Vesak or Visakah Puja (Buddha's Birthday Celebrations). Vesak is the major Buddhist festival of the year as it celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha on the one day, the first full moon day in May. This year it is expected on 16th May, however the exact date varies between traditions. The festival is marked by decorations, bright lanterns, acts of charity, and meditation.

Eid Ul Adha

Eid Ul Adha (day of sacrifice), is one of the most important festivals in Islam. A celebration to mark the ultimate act of obedience that the Prophet Abraham was ready to make by sacrificing his son Ishmael. Eid al-Adha 2026 is expected to begin around the evening of 27th May and last for three days. These dates are based on the Islamic calendar and are subject to the sighting of the new moon.
