Dying Matters Week
4th - 10th May 2026
Dying Matters Week is an annual awareness week that was created by the charity Hospice UK for the mission of breaking down the stigma and taboo of talking about death and dying.
Death, dying and bereavement affect us all. The theme this year is 'Let’s talk about Death and Dying' because talking about Dying Matters.
We know that talking about grief, death and bereavement is not always something that we find easy to talk about. Whether navigating through our own experiences or being there to support someone else through theirs, talking about it helps.
Hospice UK have shared some tips to helping you to get the conversation started, you can clink on the links below to download them:

Bereavement support group
Our Bereavement and Me group is run by our Humanist Faith Advisor Mike Heap. It is an opportunity to talk with others about loss in a relaxed way, share your experiences with others trying to make sense of their grief and figure out how to get through this challenging time. These sessions take place on campus in the Multifaith Chaplaincy space on Level 2 of the Owen Building from 2pm - 3pm.
Upcoming dates: 1st June 2026
If you can't make these dates but would like support around bereavement, please contact us at chaplaincy@shu.ac.uk
