Students from institutions across the country took part in the specialised problem-solving competition focused on supply chain and logistics challenges based on real-world scenarios

Students were asked to consider how organisations can assess supplier risk before onboarding, and how they can gain greater visibility beyond direct suppliers into complex, multi-layered supply chains.

The Sheffield Hallam team impressed judges with a rigorous, commercially relevant and analytically robust presentation. Their work identified key categories of supplier risk, including financial, operational, geographical, environmental, political, reputational and cybersecurity risks.

They also developed a practical risk-scoring framework, explored trade-offs between cost efficiency and supply chain resilience, and proposed ways Bentley could strengthen visibility beyond direct suppliers through supplier mapping, disclosure, digital traceability and audits.

Dr Alim Abubakre, Senior Lecturer in International Business at Sheffield Business School, said: “This achievement reflects the calibre, confidence and strategic agility of our students. Faced with a real-world challenge around supply chain uncertainty, supplier opacity and cost-resilience trade-offs, they moved beyond theory to deliver commercially relevant, actionable recommendations.

Their success highlights Sheffield Business School’s commitment to developing employable, globally minded and socially responsible graduates. I am proud of Jimi, Alice, Hardik, Jacob and Amishi, and grateful to Bentley for the opportunity, as well as to Dr Cecile Morris for her support.”

Dr Cecile Morris, Head of Academic Planning and Delivery at Sheffield Business School, said:We are incredibly grateful to Bentley Motors for hosting this event. Meeting senior leaders and interns and hearing first-hand about the organisation’s strategic priorities and career opportunities, was both valuable and inspiring”.

The winning Sheffield Hallam team comprised Jimi Sykes from BA Business Studies, Alice Fisher and Jacob Davies from BA Business Management, Hardik Thakker from MSc Wealth Management, and Amishi Bansal from the Global MBA.

Hardik Thakker said: "Winning the Bentley Logithon was a truly inspiring experience that challenged us to think critically, collaborate effectively, and deliver innovative solutions under pressure. It strengthened strategic and analytical skills while providing valuable exposure to real-world logistics and supply chain challenges. It also gave me the opportunity to connect with talented individuals who share a passion for innovation, problem-solving, while engaging with senior leaders at Bentley and gaining valuable industry insights."

The win highlights Sheffield Business School’s strong commitment to applied learning, employability, enterprise, global engagement and meaningful industry collaboration, while reinforcing the University’s broader mission to drive future economies.
