The 22-year-old recently overcame a near two-year injury absence from the sport to be crowned light heavyweight champion at the England Boxing Amateur Championships.

Emily is studying Sport and Exercise Science in Sheffield Hallam’s School of Sport and Physical Activity and also works as a teaching assistant.

Her latest accolade follows similar awards at school and junior level as well as representing England.

Emily said: "I have been boxing since I was 11 and hope this latest win will be a stepping stone. I am back doing what I love - and doing it well at this level - after such a frustrating injury.

"Boxing is hard work, you can prepare for three, three minutes (rounds) of your life, training for eight to 12 weeks, but when you win, it is so rewarding.”

Emily is part of the Performance Athlete Support Programme at Sheffield Hallam University, which allows talented student athletes to balance university life while achieving their sporting potential.

James Blencowe, Performance Sport Manager at Sheffield Hallam University said: “We're immensely proud of Emily and her achievement as one of our athletes supported by the Performance Athlete Support Programme.

“It's a fantastic accomplishment where Emily is balancing academic studies in Sport and Exercise Science, alongside performances in the ring. It's really pleasing to see a dual career athlete succeed on the national stage through their hard work and perseverance.”

Ruth M Crabtree, Head of the School of Sport and Physical Activity added: “I am always amazed at how our elite students manage to juggle their sporting prowess whilst studying for a degree.  At Hallam we have many students who manage to do this and succeed at their sport, Emily demonstrates that hard work, commitment and enthusiasm can result in success in all spheres of life.  Huge congratulations to Emily and Sport Hallam.”
