Dr Lisa Mooney, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation.

Dr Mooney has an academic background in the arts and social sciences, and extensive research and consultancy expertise in the fields of knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and research impact.

She was previously Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research and Knowledge Exchange at the University of East London and has led institution-wide REF submissions there and at the University of Lincoln, where she was Dean of Research and the Graduate School.

She is also one of only 12 academics in the UK invited to advise on the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 Interdisciplinary Research Advisory Panel, supporting interdisciplinary policy and practices for UKRI, and the only member of the panel from a modern university.

Dr Mooney will officially join the University on Monday 9 March.

Announcing the appointment, Professor Sir Chris Husbands, Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, said: “I am delighted to welcome Dr Mooney to the University’s leadership team, to lead the development of the University’s research institutes and facilitate growth in research and innovation capacity and impact.

“Our rapidly growing research programme is developing innovative, practical solutions to real world problems. Working across disciplines in world class facilities, our academics are tackling the cultural, economic, social and health challenges facing society today, driving significant improvements to the lives of individuals and communities the world over, including within our own region.”

Dr Mooney added: “I am extremely excited to be joining Sheffield Hallam at such a critical juncture in its ambitious plans, and at a time where we can really capitalise on such a great network of partnerships and collaborations. In establishing a focused and dynamic research strategy, we are ready to take the next steps in innovating the way we convene around local and global challenges. It is the passion and commitment for interdisciplinary working that drew me to Hallam, and that will ultimately inspire us to join forces for the greatest impact and the best visibility on the global stage.”
