The new partnership launches in the 2026/27 academic year and is the first in more than a decade in the country for Sheffield Hallam University.

It will initially focus on courses in quantity surveying and construction project management with the partnership set to expand over the next three years to include courses in areas including computing, business and health.

In January this year the Government announced its ambition to grow the value of education exports to £40 billion a year by 2030, backing UK universities to deliver education overseas in new and expanding markets.

James Richardson, Director of Global Engagement, Sheffield Hallam University, said:
“Sheffield Hallam is proud to enter a new partnership with Horizon Campus, one of the leading non-state higher education institutions in Sri Lanka. This partnership is a signal of our shared ambition to provide high quality education to students locally and internationally through innovative and supportive teaching.

“Horizon Campus will teach a portfolio of Sheffield Hallam degree programmes, with the students receiving the internationally recognised Sheffield Hallam degree award.”

Launched in 2011 with a vision to provide internationally recognised higher education opportunities to Sri Lankan students, Horizon Campus is one of Sri Lanka’s leading non-state higher education institutions.

Horizon Campus is a degree awarding institution, approved by the Ministry of Education and recognised by the Sri Lankan University Grants Commission. Horizon Campus has a reputation for academic quality through collaborations with internationally recognised universities and professional bodies.

Dr Ruwan Perera, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Horizon Campus, added:
“I am delighted our new partnership will bring back the household name of Sheffield Hallam University to Sri Lanka, initially with highly regarded programmes in Quantity Surveying and Construction Project Management and more programmes to follow.”
