The Practices and Circumstances that shape Product Attachment in the Home

Board with images of everyday objects and descriptions

Julia Keyte - Senior Lecturer Jewellery and Metalwork

My article-based PhD contributes to research on design and sustainable consumption, by exploring how and why we keep things.

I am developing creative methods for collecting the stories of ordinary possessions. These narratives can tell us about an object’s ‘life’ in the home and how meaning-making processes influence whether it is kept or disposed of. My methods help identify the potential for design to challenge consumption practices.
