Senior Lecturer

I teach modules on nineteenth- and twentieth-century British social and cultural history, with a particular focus on working-class communities, gender, black history, regional history, public history and heritage

Dr Stirling trained as a product designer (Northumbria University) and before moving to academia worked in the design industry in interiors and games design. She gained her PhD from the School of Education at the University of Sheffield and in this she took a longitudinal ethnographic approach studying Facebook use by students in transition. She is interested in the proliferation of digital spaces within our everyday lives and the relationship between time and space within these.

I joined Sheffield Hallam University in January 2022, after working at the University of Sheffield. My research interests focus on children's academic attainment, behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, and the professional development of maths and science teachers. I am also passionate about music education, children's engagement with music, and its impact.

My research examines how people with insomnia perceive their own and other people's faces in relation to tiredness. I am also interested in the relationship between personality and insomnia.

Colin Beard is a Professor and Teaching Fellow in the Department of Service Sector Management in Sheffield Business School.

Dr Torsten Schenkel specialises in numerical modelling of complex flows using commercial CFD solvers and in-house codes in a wide range of applications.
