Research and consultancy
Our research work for external clients ranges from short intense projects on highly focussed issues to long term evaluation projects covering many years.
Development of novel digital materials for use in additive manufacturing and 3D printing
The objective of this project is to develop new and innovative digital materials, such as digital ABS, for use with additive manufacturing and 3D printing applications.
Development of FEA models to predict the performance of lattice structures in additive manufacturing
The aim of this project is to develop and validate new numerical models using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), in order to determine the static and dynamic performance of regular and irregular lattice structures which are used in additive manufacturing and 3D printing.
Development of thermal imaging for paediatric healthcare
The aim of this study is to work with clinicians to develop thermal imaging as a viable diagnostic and monitoring tool in paediatric healthcare.
New ceramic material can help protect our troops
Funded by the Ministry of Defence (MOD), we were tasked with creating a high performance ceramic material with potential for use in for body armour. The project was undertaken by Hywel Jones, one of our materials engineering experts, and Anthony Pick, a ceramic consultant
Raman Spectroscopy of PVD Coatings
From 1999-2002, the Raman Spectroscopy of PVD Coatings project aimed to develop a Raman based method of monitoring the quality of coatings produced by the Surface Engineering Group and monitor stress and wear induced changes in hard coatings
Expertise in clay-based polymer nanocomposites
We have extensive experience of incorporating clays into a range of petroleum derived polymers including polypropylene, polyamide, polyacrylates, polycaprolactone, polyvinylalcohol as well as biopolymers including starch, polylactic acid, chitosan and gelatin
