Please note, you may see some campus works taking place across our campuses during the open day. We are committed to continually optimising our campus spaces and improving the student experience. We have ensured work will cause minimum disruption to your movement around the campus, as well as maximising the safety of all visitors.

How to find us

 

Our open days are an exciting and vibrant time, and we are always delighted to see so many of you visiting our campuses. It’s a great idea to plan your journey before the day so you set off early with enough time before the start of your session. 

 

You can find a full map of both our campuses, along with details about our accommodation below. 

 

By car

By train

Our City Campus main entrance is a 5 minute walk up the hill from Sheffield train station. See the National Rail Enquiries website for times and fares or call 03457 48 49 50.

By coach

Coaches stop at Sheffield Interchange, right next to our City Campus. From Sheffield Interchange you can pop across the road from Stand A, and enter through the STEM building. Visit the National Express website to see timetables and book tickets.

Stay the night

You’ll see even more of Sheffield if you stay over – why not turn your visit into a mini-break? See the Welcome to Sheffield website for details. We have discounts available at some local hotels, check them out here.

Explore special open day offers in the city

In conjunction with Sheffield BID we have teamed up with a variety of Sheffield city centre businesses to offer visitors to our open days with a select range of offers and deals. Offers are available on the day of your open day visit and can be redeemed by showing your open day event booking confirmation at the time of placing your order.

Arrival and check in

 

Check in

 

You can check in at any time during the event via one of our welcome points. We will ask you for your booking confirmation email with your QR code to check you in. This is so that we know you have attended, and can then send you information about what to do after attending an open day. Don’t worry if you haven’t got your confirmation email, we can check you in with your name instead. 

 

Check-in points can be found at the below locations:

 

City Campus

  • Level 5, Owen Building (main entrance)
  • Hertha Ayrton STEM Centre
  • Charles Street Building
  • Cantor Building
  • Langsett Building
  • Redmires Building
  • Head Post Office Building

Collegiate Campus

  • Heart of the Campus
  • Robert Winston Building

 

Ask for help

You will see friendly student ambassadors and staff all over our campus so you’ll never be too far from someone who can direct you. Just ask if you need pointing in the right direction.

 

  • Our student ambassadors will be wearing bright blue t-shirts and/or coats. 
  • Our open day staff will be wearing burgundy t-shirts/hoodies or a pink or burgundy hi-vis vest.
  • Academic and support service team staff won’t be wearing branded t-shirts, but can be found at the stands which are signposted in the guide.

You can ask any members of our staff or student ambassadors for help with directions or any questions you might have throughout the event.  

If you have any questions that you would prefer to ask in writing, or if you have any requirements you would like to ask about ahead of the open day, complete the webform, and a member of our team will get in touch with you.

You can also visit our quieter open day and accessibility web page for information about additional support we can offer at our open day events. Dedicated quiet spaces and spaces to pray are available on both campuses on the day of the event. To access these, please contact us on the day on 07500 227997 and we can help you find the way.


Check your guide


Have a look through the guide when you arrive to find out what’s happening at our applicant open days and what time things start. You can also find out about all the different talks, taster sessions and stands on offer.

If your course is based at Collegiate Campus, you can easily get between City and Collegiate Campus using our shuttle bus services (for more info see below “Getting between campuses”). Just ask our friendly student ambassadors for information when you arrive.

Please note: all information below will be updated around 2 weeks before the event.

  • Attend the Welcome talk - Start your day with a brief introduction to Sheffield Hallam from our staff and students or you can watch our welcome talk video at the top of this page. Watching the talk in advance allows you to make the most of your time at the event if you have a packed schedule. Our live, in-person welcome talks are scheduled on the day as follows:

City Campus - AM

Pennine Lecture Theatre, Level 2, Atrium, City Campus at 9.45am and again at 10.30am

Collegiate Campus - AM

Room HC 0.06, Heart of the Campus, Collegiate Campus at 10am

City Campus - PM

  • Support Services stands - Got any questions about what support and help you’ll have as a student here? Chat to our staff or attend a talk on your chosen topic. These are on pages 3035 of the guide.
  • Smart Student Living: 4 Meals for £20 - Join us for a live cooking demo and learn real life budgeting tips, practical cooking and meal planning ideas, advice for tackling the cost of living, and other ways you are supported. Find us at Hallam Cafe, Level 5 Atrium at 10am, 10.30am, 1.30pm and 2.15pm.
  • Explore accommodation - Take a look around an example of our halls of residence and talk to students about what it’s like to live there. You can look at our accommodation ahead of time via the accommodation hub. Note: only select accommodation buildings will be available to view at the open day. See page 38 of the guide for more information about what is open on the day. 
  • Take a campus tour - Imagine yourself as a Hallam student and take a tour of our City campus including our 24-hour libraries. There are maps of our campuses at the end of our guide. Tours run throughout the day between on a rolling schedule. Just drop in at the meeting points and join the next available group. The City Campus tour meets at meet at Level 5, Owen Building and the Collegiate Campus tour meet at Heart of the Campus. Find out more information about tours on page 5 of the guide.
  • Explore facilities - Take a studio tour for Sheffield Creative Industries Institute Foundation Year. Setting off from Atrium, Level 2 at 12.30pm. 
  • Explore Sheffield - Choosing a university is about more than the course - the city must be right too. Sheffield’s a brilliant place to live and study - make sure you save some time to explore. You can also take a walking tour of the city if you wish - just visit our tours stand in our main entrance at City Campus. You can also find out what the wider city has on offer via Welcome to Sheffield.

 

Where to eat and drink


We’ve got plenty of places on campus for you to grab a bite to eat. You can also check in with our team when you arrive for a complimentary sweet treat!

City Campus - 9am–2pm

  • Hallam Cafe, Level 5 Owen Building
  • Hallam Cafe, Charles Street Building
  • Hallam Cafe, Head Post Office Building

Collegiate Campus - 9am–2pm

  • The Granary, Heart of the Campus
  • The Crescent, Robert Winston Building

Getting between campuses

 

It’s just 30 minutes' walk or you can take our free shuttle bus between our two campuses between 9.30am3.30pm. Please allow 30 mins travel time.  

 

  • If you’re at City Campus, get the bus from the corner of Brown Street.
  • If you’re at Collegiate Campus, get the bus from Collegiate Crescent.  

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to travel between campuses. 

 

How long does it take to get between buildings?

 

From our main entrance at Owen Building, City Campus it is:

  • 2 minute walk to the Atrium and Howard, Norfolk and Surrey buildings
  • 2 minute walk to Redmires, Langsett and Strines buildings
  • 5 minute walk to Charles Street building
  • 5 minute walk to Cantor building
  • 5 minute walk to Eric Mensforth and Hertha Ayrton buildings
  • 10 minute walk to Head Post Office building

From our main entrance at Heart of the Campus, Collegiate Campus it is:

  • 5 minute walk to Robert Winston Building
  • 5 minute walk to Mary Badland Lecture Theatre
  • 5 minutes walk to the Main Building
