Activities and support over the summer

Whether you’re staying in Sheffield this summer or heading elsewhere, Hallam Help is here to support you.
Our service remains open throughout the summer, with support available via telephone, web chat and email, and in person.
Support will be available in person via our Owen Level 5 help point until it closes on Monday 6 July, reopening on Wednesday 2 September.
During this period Hallam Help points points are available in Adsetts and Collegiate Libraries.
Over the bank holiday weekend, Hallam Help will close at 5pm on Friday 28 August and reopen at 9am on Wednesday 2 September.
Urgent help
If you are on campus and require urgent help there are security staff available 24/7. To contact them please call ext. 2000 on internal phones or 0114 225 2000 if calling from an external line.
Supporting your wellbeing
Student Wellbeing remains open over summer, we are open 9-5pm Monday – Friday, please be aware there will be limited cover after 4pm on the 28 August.
During August bank holiday, we are closed on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September and re-open at 9 am on Wednesday 3 September
For support outside of hours, our Urgent Help page lists a range of services that you can contact 24/7 for mental health support
Library and Skills Centre
Your Library Online provides access to books, journals, databases, subject support, the Skills Centre, and 24/7 Library Chat.
Our two campus libraries are open 24/7 providing a range of learning spaces, including those for individual and group working.
The Library’s Skills support continues over the summer, including online group sessions and 1-1 appointments. You can access our full range of online resources including sessions recordings and digital tools to support editing and proofreading anytime.

Careers and employability
You can still access Careers & Employability support over summer. Our Hub opening hours are available here: Contact Careers & Employability
During August bank holiday, we are closed on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September and re-open at 10:30am on Wednesday 2 September.
Appointments are available to book Tuesday - Thursday between 9am-5pm, but the front desk will only be open during the above hours.
You can access our Careers and Employability website for digital support with applications and any other careers related queries.
You can also find a ‘Careers Support over the Holidays’ online package of digital tools to help you focus and build upon your career aspirations over the summer.

The Multifaith Chaplaincy
The chaplaincy remains open over the summer period. If you have any questions or would like to book a 1-2-1 appointment, please email chaplaincy@shu.ac.uk

Students' Union
Hallam Students’ Union remains open over the summer break, with opportunities to connect and independent advice when you need it most.
The Students’ Union will close for the August bank holiday on Friday 28 August at 5pm and reopen on Wednesday 2 September at 9am. For support during this time, please refer to their online help and support resources or contact one of their listed external support providers.

IT support
If you need IT support or have an urgent query you can still contact our out-of-hours service on 0114 225 3333 all day, every day.
You can also report issues, or submit requests, using our self-service portal. You can find more information on the IT and Library services tab.
Technical operations, resources and services
The majority of the specialist technical spaces remain open throughout the summer supporting research, widening participation events and those students whose practical work continues sometimes until early August.
Servicing and maintenance of spaces and equipment will require closure of specific spaces for periods of time and all spaces will be closed during the August bank holiday. Please use the link below to contact the relevant technical team if you require further information.
Sport Hallam
Both the Collegiate and City gyms will remain open throughout the summer period, with the exception of the August bank holiday (closed from Monday 31 August to Tuesday 1 September).
Our Just Play sessions and fitness classes will continue to run over the summer. We recommend planning ahead by checking the timetable in advance. We are working hard to minimise disruption and ensure a varied and engaging schedule remains available.
