Facilities

High quality facilities have helped us to establish an excellent reputation for our research and teaching

Our architecture studios and laboratories in the centre of Sheffield are equipped for drawing, model making, and computer aided design.

Our nearby construction workshops have wood and metal working tools, laser cutters and environmental testing equipment. Adjacent spaces are used for structural design activity and hands-on construction classes.

We have specially designed state of the art environmental and soil laboratories, as well as plant preparation and growing facilities.

Extensive use is made of relevant technology to ensure students are fully versed in the latest techniques, including networked PCs with Autocad software, geographical information systems (GIS) to map and analyse environmental data and global positioning systems (GPS). We also use 3D copiers and artificial sky for daylight testing with miniature model photography.

All our labs and workshops are staffed by expert technicians

As well as the excellent facilities available at our City Campus, we are also fortunate to be located in a city with some of the best opportunities for field work. We make extensive use of the Peak District National Park and local nature reserves and woodland, as well as exploring urban regeneration schemes and environmental initiatives throughout our region. We also organise residential field work for our students around the UK and overseas to explore different landscapes and cities in a global context.
