Sheffield Hallam's Pre-sessional Goes from Strength to Strength

Monday 03 July 2017

The new fifteen-week pre-sessional course has exceeded its recruitment targets. Sixty-eight International students are currently half way through their fifteen week course.

They have been joined by almost two hundred students on the ten-week course.

They will be joined by approximately ninety students at the end of the month for the five-week course.

The students will start under-graduate and post-graduate courses across the university in September.

Stephen Hughes is course leader for all three courses. He leads a team of nineteen associate lecturers.

Stephen says, "the fifteen week course offers Sheffield Hallam students longer to develop key aspects English language and provides them with the skills they need for success".

One of the striking developments on the pre-sessional course is the rolling out of in-house listening assessment. A new suite of tests has been developed for pre-sessional students.

Jo Webster, who is leading the development, says that the tests have drawn on data-driven research, the BALEAP Can-Do statements, and the efforts of many in the TESOL team.
