Pre-16 partnerships

For younger learners our work is rooted in long-standing partnerships, a shared commitment to social mobility, and a focus on delivering meaningful impact for those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Early Years Community Research Nursery

Our award-winning Early Years Community Research Nursery, developed alongside Watercliffe Meadow Primary School, Save the Children UK and Sheffield City Council, combines outstanding early years provision with support for families and research-informed practice. It plays a key role in supporting children’s development and future learning.

The South Yorkshire Children’s University

We recognise the powerful role of learning beyond the classroom. Through our South Yorkshire partnership, we deliver experiences for Primary and KS4 students that broaden horizons and help build the skills, confidence and curiosity that support long-term progression.

Y7- Y9 Higher Education Progression Partnership (HEPP)

Now in its 15th year, HEPP (formerly Aim Higher) is a collaboration between Sheffield Hallam and the University of Sheffield, supporting learners, parents, and educators to explore the benefits of higher education. It reflects our ongoing commitment to improving awareness, aspiration and access across the region.

National Outreach Programme (Y7-Y13)

We’ve played a leading role in national outreach since the early 2000s, beginning with Aim higher and now through the Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire (HEPPSY). HEPPSY supports attainment and progression for learners from backgrounds that are underrepresented in higher education and contributes to the Office for Students’ national participation agenda.

Our outreach activities

Our outreach team delivers a wide range of activities for learners of all ages – from subject-specific tasters to progression-focused workshops. For example, pre-16 subject specific sessions and pre-16 “Think you Know Hallam Sessions”.
