Your lecturer's view
This course develops your understanding of how organisations operate across functional areas through the lens of different SAP technologies. You will explore interactive case studies and real-world business challenges, critically evaluating organisational performance using advanced theories and innovative methodologies.
Your dissertation offers the opportunity to specialise in a chosen area, supported by expert supervision, while developing advanced research, academic writing, and professional reporting skills aligned to global industry expectations.

Key Themes
You will explore core functional areas such as accounting and finance, human resources, materials management and production planning, enhanced through exclusive exposure to SAP-enabled enterprise systems. Through business process re-engineering (BPR) and optimisation, you will learn to evaluate and optimise these functions, improving efficiency through effective design, integration and automation driven by digital technologies.
You will develop advanced project management expertise using globally recognised frameworks such as PRINCE2 and Agile, gaining a strong understanding of roles, responsibilities, and accountability in complex digital transformation projects.
Using industry-led case studies, you will analyse enterprise projects and predictive modelling with cutting-edge tools including SAP S/4HANA, SAP Signavio, and SAC. You will explore enterprise architecture frameworks such as Zachman and TOGAF, analysing key layers of an organisation’s strategy, culture, infrastructure, and digital platform. You’ll also learn how to identify areas of digital transformation through predictive analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), and generative AI – plus their applications to real-world tasks.
The course also develops entrepreneurial and professional skills through academic and practical learning, preparing you to analyse and lead transformational projects that create sustainable competitive advantages.

SAP Dual Study Programme
You will have the opportunity to participate in a three-day skills development training programme delivered by SAP certified trainers. This is designed to give you insight and experience into SAP’s global customer and partner ecosystem. This initiative equips you with in-demand skills and experience of real-world enterprise challenges.
Upon completion of the programme, you will gain an SAP Digital Skills Centre diploma.

Final year
Compulsory modules
This module will apply the technical knowledge and understanding developed across the course into an original research project. This will include critical and ethical analysis of literature, synthesising the findings and tailoring them to the specific context of their research projects using a suitable research methodology.
You’ll study topics such as:

- Selection and application of appropriate research tools, techniques, or methods
- Design and development of the artefact/prototype

This module explores the concepts of managing enterprise system projects in an analytical and practical way. This includes examining organisational/enterprise dilemmas in the form of case studies and real-world scenarios and address them with practical enterprise systems solutions.

- SAP Enterprise Systems applications such as SAP SAC, SAP S/4 HANA, SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform)
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications in context
- Functionalities of modern Enterprise Systems, such as IoT, Data Analytics, Blockchain and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) and their applications
- Business Architecture, Technology Architecture and Enterprise Architecture and its application to various organisations with reference to size and area of operations
- IT management theories such as change management, business strategy and leadership in contemporary Enterprise Management Projects
This module provides an in-depth understanding of how the learning on the course is relevant in the corporate world of information technology. This includes its use in exploiting and responding to customer demands through enterprise and entrepreneurial solutions.

- IT Industry in terms of its structure, behaviour, and future development

This module covers technical, organisational, societal, and professional issues that surround contemporary IT project management. This includes the quality and the development of products and services with reference to sustainability and stakeholder benefits.

Entry requirements
All students
Normally you need
• a good honours degree which includes significant aspects of IT, typically 2.2 or above, from a UK university or equivalent from overseas university
We will also consider applicants do not meet these academic criteria but who have several years' experience in expert, managerial or senior IT roles. You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam.
Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English.

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2026/27 is £10,940 for the course.
If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees.
