Applied learning

To be a successful leader, you need to understand, implement and integrate the current fundamental concepts of business from a healthcare setting.

The core MBA modules are integrated meaning that instead of studying finance in isolation, you study finance together with HRM and decision-making.

Our approach replicates the real world where strategic decisions will span multiple business areas, providing you with a richer and more realistic learning experience.

There are three health related modules that enable you to tailor your learning to your career needs.

The first module, Leadership in Context, has a focus on helping you contextualise your leadership and relate it back to some of the main theories of leadership and management with particular relevance to healthcare.  You will explore and analyse your current leadership landscape and how you operate within it.

The second module, Systems Leadership, will focus on systemic leadership in health and social care.  You will explore how complex systems of accountability and relationships with diverse organisations can improve patient care and wider societal objectives.  You will critique the relationship between markets, competition and collaboration and consider innovate solutions to deliver cost effective healthcare.

The third module, Leading Change, helps you understand how change happens in organisations and how leadership supports successful outcomes.  You will explore innovation, risk and enterprise within the healthcare context including ideas around intrapreneurship in the NHS in order to evaluate and analyse effective change and improvement.

Live projects

At the diploma stage of the course, you have the opportunity to complete psychometric tests, which can help you increase your critical self-awareness, better understand your leadership skills and identify areas for development.

Additionally, you have the opportunity to work on a consultancy project that involves investigating a real issue within your own organisation, or one with which you are familiar.

Over the course, we tailor assignments and projects to the needs of your organisation or your own areas of interest, which maximises the value of your studies. Your organisation also has the opportunity to provide input into your learning and contribute to your development.

Networking opportunities

When you study an Executive MBA at Sheffield Hallam University you join a learning community of managers and leaders from across a range of professions and industry backgrounds.

This provides you with excellent networking opportunities and you can benefit from seeing different perspectives and solutions to managerial challenges.

Future careers

If you are employed in Health or Social Care this qualification equips you with the knowledge and skills to improve your performance in your present job and progress more rapidly up the career ladder.

Completing the Executive MBA enhances your employability by demonstrating your potential for leadership within a healthcare setting, and the ability to deliver solutions to complex operational issues, within an increasingly competitive environment.

Our MBAs are highly valued by employers and previous graduates have gone on to develop successful careers in senior management.
