Start your leadership journey with our distance-learning PG Cert Leadership in Health and Social Care – combining new ways of thinking with the skills and insight to lead effectively across health and social care services. When you complete the course, you’ll gain 60 credits towards a master's level qualification, with options to progress from PG Cert Health and Social Care Leadership to PG Dip and MSc.

Key themes
As the leadership context of health and social care organisations is complex and constantly changing, our course is designed to build the skills to successfully lead in turbulent times. Our intention is to invest in immediate leadership impact and long-term organisational and system improvement.
The course supports leadership development across a range of professional roles, both nationally and internationally. You’ll explore your leadership identity while learning how to lead psychologically safe and inclusive teams. You’ll also be encouraged to challenge your ideas about how to manage and lead people and teams within your organisation, undertaking meaningful and sustainable service improvement as an agent of change.
By offering new perspectives on leadership and how these might relate to professional practice, we’ll share some powerful, practical tools, techniques and strategies to unlock effective leadership potential. As well as your own learning and development, our course can play a vital role in organisational talent management programmes, increasing overall leadership capacity while developing the next generation of leaders for the organisation.
Course support
Throughout the course you’ll be supported to make links back to your own professional practice – through reflective activities, individual and group tasks, and formative and summative assessments.
You’ll receive bespoke feedback on your leadership development in each module. You can also receive support to submit for publication on your leadership experiences if you’d like.

Through real-world assignments you’re actively involved in leadership and improvement projects throughout the programme. You’ll solve organisational problems, develop service provision, strengthen teamwork and enhance motivation, commitment and effort – all while improving service user outcomes through enhanced leadership.
Previous students have developed new care pathways for service users, used new technologies in health and social care systems, and established training and development programmes to enhance workforce skill and competence.

Entry requirements
All students
A first degree or an appropriate professional qualification considered to represent equivalence to a degree. In some circumstances experience of degree level study along with leadership/management experience will be considered. Where English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.5 is required, with no individual element below 5.5.

This course is not open to international students who require a student visa to study in the UK. If you are an international applicant but do not require a student visa, email our Admissions Team to find out whether you’re eligible to apply.

Fees and funding
Home students
Our tuition fee for UK students starting part-time study in 2024/25 is £3,440 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. If the full course is more than one year in duration, the fee will be divided into annual payments which will then be rounded. This may mean the total fee you pay is slightly higher than the fee stated above. If you take a break in study or have to re-take part of the course, you may also be charged an additional fee and will be notified of this at the time.
If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. Up to £12,858 is available in 2025/26 for home students on most masters courses.
