Why register

If you have a disability or long-term medical condition, we can support you to succeed in your studies and make the most of university life. We will tailor support to your specific needs to ensure you have all you need.

Once you have registered and provided evidence of your disability, we will contact you as soon as possible to discuss your needs.

  • a learning contract personalised to your needs
  • a support worker or specialist equipment (depending on your specific needs)
  • support throughout your course

Who can register

You can register with Disabled Student Support if you have a disability, including a long-term medical condition, a specific learning difficulty, e.g. dyslexia, or a mental health condition.

You don't have to wait until enrolment to register for support. You can register from April once you have received an offer for study. If you are a current student, you can register for support at any time.

How to register

You can register with Disabled Student Support by logging into My Student Record.

When you complete the registration, you will be asked about your disability. You will be able to upload:

If you don’t have this evidence when you register, you can email it to disability-support@shu.ac.uk later.

If you would like us to help you complete your registration or would like to know more, contact us.

What we do with your data

We understand that the decision to disclose your disability or long-term condition can be difficult. We store your information securely and will only share relevant information with your permission.
