Funding to help the next generation of female engineering students, thanks to generous support from AESSEAL plc.

The information on this page is correct for the 2026/27 academic year.

Overview

AESSEAL plc is offering three scholarships in the 2026/27 academic year to first-year female students on undergraduate Engineering and Computer Engineering courses at Sheffield Hallam University.

There are two ways to be considered for an AESSEAL Women in Engineering Scholarship:

  • One scholarship is awarded based on financial need through the Donor-Funded Scholarships process
  • Two scholarships are awarded based on applicants' educational and career aspirations

All eligible students should complete the AESSEAL application form, and students wishing to be considered for the need-based award must also submit a Student Success Scholarship application.

What you could receive

Successful applicants will typically be awarded £3,000 per year of study over three years (excluding placement, repeated, or integrated Masters years). This means they will be awarded £9,000 in total.

Who can apply

You can apply for the AESSEAL Women in Engineering Scholarships if you:

  • are enrolled on level 4 of an Engineering or Computer Engineering course in the 2026/27 academic year,
  • are a full-time or part-time undergraduate student,
  • are a ‘home’ or ‘international’ fee status student,
  • are paying tuition fees for the 2026/27 academic year (either self-funded or supported through student finance or another funding source),
  • have a UK bank account in your name, and
  • identify as female.

To be considered for the needs-based scholarship, you must also be eligible and have applied for the Student Success Scholarship.

If you receive benefits and/or any other financial support, it is your responsibility to check whether receiving an award will affect your entitlement(s)/payments.

The donor, AESSEAL

AESSEAL is a global engineering company based in Rotherham that designs and manufactures mechanical seals, bearing protectors and seal support systems used in industries such as water, energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mining and food production.

The company is also well known for its commitment to sustainability and social impact, investing heavily in environmental initiatives and skills development.

Through their donation, AESSEAL aims to reduce financial barriers for students and encourage more women to pursue engineering careers. The programme supports female students throughout their studies and helps develop the next generation of engineers.

When to apply

Applications open on Monday 26 October 2026.

To be considered for the need-based AESSEAL scholarship, you must apply for the Student Success Scholarship by Sunday 1 November 2026.

Applications close on Sunday 15 November 2026.

We expect decisions to be communicated to students in early December 2026.

How to apply

Applications will be collected via a secure Unihub form. You will be asked to share some information about your educational and career aspirations, and how a scholarship may benefit you. Applications will be reviewed by AESSEAL, who will make the final selection of scholarship recipients.

To also be considered for the need-based scholarship, you must apply for the Student Success Scholarship. If you are successful in receiving an AESSEAL Women in Engineering Scholarship, you will no longer be eligible for the Student Success Scholarship.

You must read the general and scheme terms and conditions before applying.

Applications for the 2026/27 academic year open shortly.

What happens next

Once you submit your application, it will be anonymised and shared with AESSEAL to make a final decision on who will receive the scholarships.

Once a decision has been made, we will contact you via your student email address with the outcome of your application. We aim to communicate a decision in early December.

Successful applicants will be expected to engage with AESSEAL throughout their studies through opportunities such as site visits, networking events, mentoring and promotional activities.
