Colm Campbell stood holding the award in front of a screen which says 'Quality improvement professional colleges and universities'.

Colm was recognised for his outstanding teamwork skills, his appreciation of others’ workloads and priorities and his excellent skills in influencing and motivating others by always having the apprentice experience at the heart of everything he does.

Colm said: "Whilst I am incredibly humbled and honoured to receive this award, it truly reflects the hard work and dedication of all those who support apprenticeship provision across the University.

“I’m proud of the role I play in our collective commitment to delivering exceptional apprenticeship provision across the University; and this recognition coming so closely on the heels of our fantastic recent Ofsted outcomes, is a testament to everyone involved. I’m immensely proud of what we are achieving together for our apprentices and employers, and grateful to play a part in such a dedicated community.”
Sheffield Hallam was also shortlisted for the Quality Improvement Initiative of The Year award for its Apprenticeship Community of Practice. This award celebrates outstanding efforts to enhance the quality of teaching, learning, employment support and institutional processes. It recognises innovative and impactful initiatives that have driven measurable improvements in learners’ experience, staff performance, and overall organisational outcomes.

Sam Moorwood, Associate Director of Skills, Sheffield Hallam University, said: “Congratulations to our colleague Colm Campbell on being named Quality Improvement Professional of the Year. Anyone who has worked with Colm will recognise the impact of his work, and it is fantastic to see his contribution acknowledged at a national level.

“We also welcome the introduction of the new Inclusion category by SDN MESMA. At Sheffield Hallam, we are proud to support a diverse and ambitious community, helping individuals overcome barriers and succeed. Delivering, undertaking and employing apprenticeships can present real challenges, so we are pleased to be recognised as finalists in this important category.

“In addition, we are proud to have been shortlisted for Quality Improvement Initiative of the Year for our Apprenticeship Community of Practice. During a period of significant change and growth, this collaborative initiative has played a key role in enhancing both the apprentice and employer experience and continues to drive improvement across our provision.”

The Inclusion Quality Improvement Initiative award, a new award this year, recognises quality improvement initiatives that embed inclusive practice within organisational systems, delivery, or assurance, ensuring that provision works effectively for all learners. It celebrates projects that focus on how education, support and services are designed and delivered, removing barriers within teaching, support, assessment, or quality processes so that individuals can participate fully and equitably. Sheffield Hallam University’s Inclusive Apprenticeship Practice Programme was shortlisted for this award.

Home to the National Centre of Excellence for Degree Apprenticeships, Sheffield Hallam University is a leading provider of degree apprenticeships, recognised for its applied learning ethos, strong employer partnerships, and commitment to public service education. The University delivers high-quality apprenticeship provision across a range of professional sectors, supporting both individual progression and organisational impact.

The win comes after Sheffield Hallam University welcomed the outcome of Ofsted’s latest inspection of its sector leading apprenticeships, with inspectors confirming strong standards across four key areas.
