SHU researchers demonstrate advances in Neuromorphic technology for sustainable AI
At AI UK (17-18 March), Sheffield Hallam University’s Smart Interactive Technologies lab showcased neuromorphic sensors, chips and robots that mimic brain function, illustrating sustainable AI potential. Visitors saw event-based cameras detect single sugar grains, learned neuromorphic chips could overcome current ML bottlenecks, and heard progress toward sensor-rich, animal-like robots.

CEAIR builds on the School’s strengths in embodied AI, collaborative robotics and responsible innovation to advance responsible AI and robotics research, support industry innovation and economic growth, and develop skills for an AI-enabled economy through collaboration and education in neuromorphic robotics, generative AI, health and wellbeing, and trustworthy autonomous systems.
€16.6 Million AIM-SAFE Project to Advance Trustworthy Generative AI in Healthcare
The Horizon Europe project AIM-SAFE has secured €16.6 million to develop trustworthy generative AI for clinical decision support. The project brings together partners across Europe and beyond, including a team of researchers led by Dr. Abdel-Karim Al-Tamimi, research theme lead at CEAIR, to advance safer, explainable, and privacy-preserving healthcare AI.
