Themistocles Kokolakakis
Themis is a recognised expert in the economic modelling of the sport economy. He has modelled the UK, national and regional sport economy using the National Income Accounting methodology, and has constructed the Sport Satellite Account of the UK. He has a wealth of experience in analysing large sport-related databases (such as Active People Survey). He has participated in many European projects, including the evaluation of the Sport Satellite Methodology (together with SPEA). A point of interest is how increases in sport participation affect the economy, and vice versa, how the changes in the economic conditions influence sport participation.

I'm currently working as a researcher with CENTRIC (Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime Research) inside CCRC. Primarily, my research interests fall somewhere between the information systems side of computing, knowledge management, and criminology. Of particular interest is the intersection and application of these disciplines within the security domain. In this regard, I am currently studying towards a PhD triangulating these interests in relation to their application in intelligence-led initiatives to combat Human Trafficking by the police, with the ultimate objective of developing a target operating model of effective practice for knowledge and intelligence management.

My PhD research explored the social history of mass resettlement into one of South Africa's Bantustans, the Ciskei. It examined the variety of experiences that relocation engendered, the modes of survival that these upheavals necessitated and the political effects that this process had in bolstering the local power of Bantustan elites. This research will be published in my forthcoming monograph. I am interested in bringing some of the insights of this research to bear in contemporary and comparative contexts. I have done research on some of the more recent off-farm settlements produced as a result of farm evictions in post-apartheid South Africa.
