I was educated at the Universities of Bristol and Sussex, and spent a year as an exchange student at the Humboldt University in Berlin. My first full-time lecturing post was at the University of Wales, Bangor, and I also worked for four and a half years at Liverpool Hope University before joining Sheffield Hallam in 2003.
